Before discussing Pink Gellac’s formula, we need to clarify what HEMA acrylates are.
- The most common allergy caused by gel nail polish is an allergy to HEMA acrylate. This substance is known for its strong adhesion and was originally widely used in gel nail polish.
- Nowadays, these substances are exclusively used by nail professionals, as repeated skin contact may lead to allergies. Professionals are expected to apply nail polish without touching the skin.
- The gel polish that Pink Gellac sells to consumers contains safer, alternative acrylates that are free from HEMA (and Di-HEMA).
It cannot be completely ruled out that even with the HEMA-free formula, an allergy may develop in rare cases, but this risk is significantly lower compared to formulas with HEMA acrylate. The use of the acrylates used by Pink Gellac is considered safe by European regulations. However, individuals who have already developed an allergy to HEMA or Di-HEMA may still experience reactions when coming into contact with gel polish, even if it contains lower concentrations of HEMA or another acrylate.
